My roof is at a steep angle and Garry installed a new roof over my verandah in 2013. He also attended to a number of leaks to flashings on other parts of the building. Scaffolding had been installed.
His workmanship stands to this day.
I found Garry to be approachable and his responses to queries were easy to understand.

Roof Design and Management (RDM) is a roofing consultancy based in Auckland. We are one of two roofing consultants recommended by the Roofing Association of New New Zealand.
RDM has worked with Garry Lawrence (GL) on several occasions in different capacities.
1 – GL requested the services of RDM following some issues with a re-roof project; the roof was a large area, long-run roof. RDM inspected the roof and produced a report detailing defects and non-compliance issues. GL’s practical knowledge, attention to detail and customer-focused project management skills can only be described as exemplary.
2 – RDM conducted a ‘Statement of Condition’ inspection on a concrete tile residential roof and produced a report based on the findings. The conclusion of the report suggested that a re-roof was the way forward. RDM recommended Garry Lawrence and his team for this, and Garry subsequently commissioned RDM on a consultancy basis. Again, GL’s knowledge, customer focus and management skills were superb.
On several occasions, RDM has conducted inspections and recommended that GL do the resulting work. We hope this relationship continues, and we would not hesitate to recommend GL in the future.

Garry I would like to thank you and your team for completing the complex work of removing and replacing the tiles on the roof covering 300 sqm over a 4 week period.
Considering this was done during January and February under the canopy, I can only admire the attitude, work ethic and attention to detail given temperatures under the canopy at the time.
The teams inclusive approach and organisation gave me great confidence in the quality of the work undertaken, and would have no hesitation in recommending Garry Lawrence Roofing Ltd to potential clients .They were a pleasure to have on site .
Finally the Health and Safety requirements were established on day one and complied with in every instance.

Garry has recently completed reasonably complex repairs on our roof and chimneys. The work was done expeditiously and efficiently and we are very pleased with the result. He kept us well informed throughout the process and his employees and contractors were capable and easy to have around. We have no hesitation in recommending him for any roofing work.

Garry has undertaken work on my properties several times, and he is unequivocally one of the best tradesman I have ever used. Garry is of a rare breed now that genuinely cares about his work, and prides himself of a level of craftsmanship and skill that is so hard to find these days. I am easily critical of poor workmanship, and am used to having to request recall work with other tradesman to get the job to a minimum standard – not with Garry. And on top of that he is very honest. The last job was $24k of roofing, and he refunded me $180 for an overcharge he noticed a month after I had settled the invoice.
If he can fit you into his schedule then lock him in – you will have no regrets. It would be pleasure to provide a verbal reference – please ask Garry for my phone number if required.

I am very pleased to recommend you for the exemplary way you carried out the roofing repairs for us recently. Your attention to detail was good, cost estimates were adhered to, and the standard of workmanship was high. We appreciated your cheerful manner and your willingness to respond promptly to any concerns we had. We would certainly approach you again if any roofing issues need attending to in the future.

I would like to take the time to acknowledge a Mr Garry Lawrence Roofer who fixed my leaky roof.
This was no ordinary leak and I have had the problem for three years with other roofers coming out to try and fix the problem, all saying they are 99% sure they have fixed the problem but to no avail. Garry sent one of his workers out promptly and he did his best but the first time it did not work. Garry himself came out to look at the problem and between them they came up with the ideal solution. He insured that his worker had an assistance with him for safety reasons and replaced the flashing that very weekend before the rain came. Finally it has been resolved and I can now fix the damage caused by the leak.
Garry was the only person with the expertise to think outside the square and look at the whole picture and he listened to me. His experience and wealth of knowledge around leaks and how to solve a problem when no other Roofing Company could help me over the years was such a relief. His workers spoke highly of him and my dealings with him verbally over the phone and through texting was so professional and best of all he cared. I was so confident that he was going to fix it no matter what.
#8 Brian Yakas – Roofing Project
I have over 40 years experience as a metal and membrane roofer and plumber and worked with Garry Lawrence for eight years on many metal roofing jobs until I retired in 2022. I taught Garry the metal roofing area of practice and confirm that he has a good standard of workmanship, good technical knowledge and has a professional attitude. In each of the jobs below Garry and I worked as a team to complete the work.
#9 Brian Yakas – Metal Roof
Garry was the main contractor and he and I worked together with the practical work. We assessed the job together, determined which areas of the metal corrugate roof required replacement, ordered new sheets, flashings and fixings and replaced the roof cladding as necessary.
Garry arranged the scaffolding and crane to lift the materials to height. He also replaced lead-head nails with screws and removed and replaced rusted or leaking corrugate sheets, ridge flashings and valley gutters as necessary.
He arranged and supervised the verandah framing pitch to be increased and we worked together to complete this job including the replacement of the turret sheets and lead flashings.
#10 Brian Yakas – Tile Roof
Garry was the main contractor and worked with David Donnelly and myself each day to dismantle the leaking dormer window structures and rebuild these on many of the units. The dormer roofs had a reverse pitch where water had pooled and rusted the sheet metal roofs. To rebuild these with the correct pitch, the rear of the roofs had to be raised by 120-130mm which resulted in the tiles above these being also raised.
Garry removed the tiles so we could access the dormers and the battens which needed to be raised then replaced these when the work had been completed. The tiles needed to fit closely to the new dormer roofs to stop the wind lifting them and so birds could not nest under these. He also installed and shaped lead sheeting to seal the tiles above the dormers to those on the rest of the roof.
He checked the pitch of the new gutters. When he found that one of these had a reverse pitch which was not possible to correct, he painted the inside of the gutter with pitch to prevent rusting. Garry bedded and pointed the barge tiles as necessary. He measured, drew plans then purchased the flashings we required from Tysons. He discussed the project with each owner, explained the work and quoted for this. Garry also arranged and assisted with the painting of the tile roofs on two of the units.
#11 Brian Yakas – Roofing
Garry was the main contractor. He had supervised another roofing company to replace this corrugate metal roof but contacted me to discuss areas of the job that he was not happy with and that the contractor would not correct. He showed me two sections of the roof that were at different heights, a valley gutter that was not built to code and would leak and that the turret roof leaked.
He engaged me to help him remove these sections of the new roof. David Donnelly replaced the joists to lower the roof on one side of the valley gutter and we replaced the sheets. Garry assisted us with this.
Garry called the Council about the wind zoning and found that the area was in a low wind zone but he advised me that the wind zone at height was actually a high wind zone as the property was on a ridge so the turret roof needed wider flashings. He and I replaced the flashings on this roof with 200mm ones to stop the leaks.
Garry also corrected a valley gutter at the rear of the property that had not been installed correctly. He also corrected and completed installing the flashings around the two chimneys.
